Aerial view of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS) is a permanently closed nuclear power plant located south of San Clemente, California, on the Pacific coast, in Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV.
The Samuel Lawrence Foundation will host a screening of SOS: The San Onofre Syndrome – Nuclear Power’s Legacy as part of San Diego Climate Week.
The film tells the story of a community’s successful advocacy around reactor concerns at San Onofre, while examining the ongoing challenge of radioactive waste storage along our coast. Using San Onofre as a case study, it raises urgent questions about waste management across the country, highlighting the risks posed by aging storage containers and the critical need for long-term solutions.
A Q&A discussion will follow the screening.
